Lifemaxxing? Livingmaxxing? I'm going to live fully!
October 13, 2026
Been a while since I’ve written an update, and it’s for good reason. I am now living in Japan as I write this note. Bumbling my way through communicating in Japanese and adjusting to life living alone. Granted, all of this is first impressions and novel moments, but I’m seriously immersing myself in the experience.
I noticed it yesterday while I spent the day scoping out Hakata Station by myself. I am not sure if it’s cause of the jet lag causing me to sleep early and wake up at 5am, but I felt as if I had all of the time in the world. I didn’t start school yet yesterday and I don’t have a job so it may have been the lack of pressure, but I truly was living in the moment. Constantly feeling like I had additional time to do whatever I wanted.
I simply toured around the surrounding area of the station, went up several flights of escalators to see the rooftop garden, and spent a little time reflecting at a nearby mini park. Once I did all that and went back, I pushed myself to try solo karaoke for once… and I now want to do it every week.
That’s to say, I am taking this idea of observing my surroundings and I guess go with the flow? Maybe not. More like I am deciding my own direction and letting the flow of things take its course. It’s a subtle feeling of noticing that everything is going so well, yet I am constantly making mistakes here and there.
Now, I want to take the feeling I got from yesterday, and multiply it tenfold. And I’d say I’m already on my way to do that. I went to my orientation today and already met so many fascinating individuals from all walks of life. Many from the USA, but even then some were part of the military or others were very similar to me and doing something different for the late 20s. Hell, there was even a guy who hit 60 in my class and he’s making a dive into learning Japanese.
I am truly lucky to be in such a position to meet all sorts of these people. Not only that, instead of heading home like I would normally do after class, I pushed myself to interact with other classmates from a different level. It exploded into meeting even more truly dynamic and interesting people that I could not have accounted for the coicidence we all share the same accommodation. It really boggles my mind when all these coincidences or good fortunes happen to me when I simply give myself room to try.
Who knows, this could be a fluke and all the bad luck will hit me. Until then, I will do my best to savor these experiences and hopefully use them to remind myself to keep trying. So yeah, I’m going to lifemaxx or really just keep on living. Keep the positive mindset I’ve been blessed to have and lean into it as much as I can.
Hopefully by the end of it all, I will truly be the amazing guy I aspire to become. Or really, to be someone who chooses to be an amazing guy.
